Another Knee Replacement Surgery- Thursday, January 4, 2024 The time has come for my second partial knee replacement surgery. My surgery is scheduled for January 16. Based on my last knee replacement surgery, I assume I will be recovering for roughly four weeks. Supply Pastors are lined up for the last two Sundays in January and the first two Sundays in February. Pastor Terrie Rae Anderson will be covering pastoral emergencies January 16 – 28, and Pastor Pam Karas will cover January 29 through February 12. If all goes as planned, I’ll be back to work on February 13. I am very much looking forward to getting this second surgery behind me, getting through the recovery and rehab, and regaining pain-free, or close to it, mobility. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support. |
January 2024 "Spirit" Newsletterfrom Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee I was listening to the news a few days ago when I heard that Israel had bombed Gaza using artificial intelligence called “The Gospel.” I thought at first that I had misheard. Surely an AI program designed to bomb people is not named “gospel.” But, horrifically, I had heard correctly. As Steve Inskeep from NPR’s Morning Edition reports on December 14, “The system is called The Gospel. And basically, it takes an enormous quantity of surveillance data, crunches it all together and makes recommendations about where the military should strike.” Pause right here and read the above paragraph again. I mean it. Read it again. For more infomation visit: http://centrallutheran132.tithelysetup.com/news/january-2024-spirit-newsletter

January Worship Schedule
As we begin the New Year, we also begin a new church season: Epiphany. An epiphany is an illuminating discovery, realization, disclosure, or revelation. In the Christian context, Epiphany focuses on the revelation of who Jesus is, maybe best exemplified in the story of the Magi coming to visit the baby Jesus. The season of Epiphany runs through January and the first two weeks of February, culminating with the Transfiguration on February 11. Jan 7 Epiphany of our Lord Isaiah 60:1-6 & Matthew 2:1-12 For more infomation visit: https://www.centrallutheraneverett.com/pages/monthly-worship-schedule |

Stewardship & FinanceResearch Says, “Givers Also Get” “While most people probably subscribe to the general theory that charity is ‘good for the soul,’ almost all would be hard-pressed to say why. Many would also be surprised to learn that philanthropic acts are also good for the mind and body. Research is beginning to confirm these claims. These emerging findings can transform the way people live and feel about themselves . . . philanthropic involvement is measurably wholesome for mind, body, and soul.” [Give to Live, Douglas M. Lawson] Of course, that research is not new information. The Bible has been telling us for two thousand years that giving is more blessed than receiving.
