All I Want For Christmas...- Tuesday, December 5, 2023 Recently, a family member asked me if I had come up with my Christmas list. Sometime in the past number of years, our family has started making and sharing Christmas lists with each other. It is a very high-tech enterprise. After finding exactly what you want online, you copy the ULR and paste it onto your list which is then emailed out to the rest of the family. When someone gets you something from the list, the item is removed, thus ensuring no one else will get you the same thing. The upside of this system is that it has saved us from receiving unwanted, sometimes bewildering gifts, like a globe for example. December "Spirit" Newsletterfrom Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee From the Bishop: We were in a car heading to the Sahara Desert. The weather was changing. I looked out the window and, seeing a dark mass in the distance, said to the driver, “Do you know what a tornado is?” He didn’t respond. But in a few short moments, we skidded to a stop on the side of the road. There was no visibility, wind was swirling around us. Rain and sand and rocks were pelting the car. And then the car windows broke from the pressure of the storm. We were suddenly being blown around and all of us in the car were showered with rain and sand and rocks and glass. We huddled in our seats, shocked by the ferociousness of the weather around us and fearful of what was happening. When I look at our world right now, I confess I feel much the same as I did on that day - like I’m huddling in my seat, shocked by the ferociousness of the wind and fearful of what is happening. December Worship ScheduleAdvent into Christmas Happy New Year! With the beginning of Advent, we also begin a new church year. The season of Advent is about anticipating and preparing for the coming of Christ. During this time of anticipation and preparation, we will light a candle each week on our advent wreath. As we watch the light grow brighter each week, we are reminded of both the coming of Christ, the light of the world, and our own baptismal call to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.” Advent comes to an end on Christmas Eve, when our waiting is over and we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child: Immanuel, God with us. This year, Christmas Eve falls on Sunday. We will have a modified 10:00 am worship and a 7:00 pm Candlelight service. Dec 3 2nd Sunday in Advent Isaiah 40:1-11 & Mark 1:1-8 For more infomation visit: https://www.centrallutheraneverett.com/pages/monthly-worship-schedule |

Stewardship & FinanceThe Dash “After walking through a cemetery, a man said, ‘Have you noticed how much meaning a dash can have? Born 1921—Died 1981. What a way to summarize a life—with a dash!’ That will eventually describe the years of every person’s life—a dash. We cannot stop our movement toward the final destination, but we can choose what we do with our dash. We can spend it on significant matters or on meaningless trivia. Thus a congregation’s ministry of stewardship is a matter of ultimate importance—far more significant than fund-raising. “Shrouds have no pockets. We do not see Brinks trucks in funeral processions. Hearses do not pull U-Haul trailers. But stewardship lets us take it with us. ‘Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal’ (Matt. 6:20). Through prudent stewardship, we can enter the abundant life of joy and meaning. Through stewardship, we can protect ourselves from being possessed by our possessions, thinking they are permanent and that they buy permanent security. Through stewardship, we can grow spiritually. Through stewardship, we create a meaningful dash.” [The Vital Congregation, Herb Miller] Finance Update through October Beginning Balance (4,649) Income (Deficit) (1,486) CLICK HERE to make a financial donation to Central Lutheran Church. |
