April 2025 "Spirit" Newsletter

April 2025 "Spirit" Newsletter

from Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee

As you probably know, thousands of bison once roamed the plains of North America. In the late 1800s they were almost brought to extinction. Thankfully, due to conservation efforts, bison are back in the United States plains – even if they aren’t nearly as ubiquitous as they once were.

April Worship Schedule

April Worship Schedule

Our Lenten journey draws to an end in April as we move into Holy Week. We enter into the dramatic story as we reenact Jesus’ procession into Jerusalem and preview what lies ahead on Palm/Passion Sunday, hear about his betrayal on Maundy Thursday, and as we reflect on the meaning of the cross on Good Friday. Jesus’ passion and death demonstrates God’s commitment to join us in pain, loss, fear, and suffering in the world. But in the midst of that pain, loss, fear, and suffering, and even in the face of death, God brings good news of resurrection and new life! This is the good news that we celebrate on Easter Sunday.

Sunday Supper

Sunday Supper

Sundays at 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall

The homeless, under-resourced, or just plain hungry are all welcome! Anyone in need can get a meal at Central Lutheran Church each Sunday night. Sunday Suppers are at 5:00 pm. These meals are provided by volunteers from  different congregations representing a variety of denominations in Snohomish County.

You are invited to serve in this vital ministry. Volunteers can arrive at 4:30 to help with set up and the meal will be served at 5:00. We stop serving meals at 6:00 and usually can be cleaned up and done by 6:30.   As the saying goes, many hands make light work.

As the weather begins to get colder, our neighbors will be looking for coats, sweatshirts, hats, and gloves. If you have any gently used items we would love to keep them in stock for when people in need come in looking for warm-weather clothing.

Thank you as always for your support in time, food, and prayers.

The Spiritual Nature of Money

The Spiritual Nature of Money

Before taking the offering, a pastor said, “I would like to remind you of four good reasons for giving. 1. What you are about to give is tax deductible. 2. You cannot take it with you. 3. The Bible says it is the root of all evil. 4. If our church doesn’t pay its electricity bill, we will be singing in the dark next Sunday night.”

But there are far more positive reasons for giving than those four. The Bible does not teach us that the primary reason for generous giving is to balance the church budget. The Bible tells us that we give our money because of our relationship with Jesus Christ. We give as an act of worship.

That is primarily what the offering is all about, not balancing the budget but giving to further God’s work in response to what God has done in our lives.
